  • Ryder Rides to Victory in Club Championships

    16 June, 2010

Paul Ryder is again Club Champion, but this year it didnt come too easy for the many time winner. There was a suprise after the first days play when not one player broke par, and Paul came in with best gross of 72 closely followed by a few ususal suspects. Tom Duke took the initiative and played very good golf to take Paul up the last, but Paul holed a truly wonderful putt to take Tom into a play-off. As we all know golf can be both cruel and kind to you, but this year it didnt go Toms way and Paul took the title. Well done to all who competed, and to all the professionall staff, bar staff, green staff for a great weekend. Results

  • Centenary Drive-In Re-enactment

    May 28 , 2010

Filton Golf Club 100 years of operation
The original 9 holes of Filton Golf Club were officially declared open by our first President and landlord, local squire John Atkin Waller, teeing off from the first tee on 28 May 1910. The ball he used was mounted in silver and presented to him as a memento.
Mr Atkin Waller was no golfer and there is no record of how well he struck the ball on that historic occasion for Filton Golf Club or if, indeed, he actually hit the ball! The memento itself has long been lost, possibly it lies in some dusty cupboard somewhere, but if anyone knows of its whereabouts we would like to retrieve it to add to our collection of historic Filton artefacts.
As we enter our second century of operation we intend to recreate the events of 100 years ago and record the event for posterity.
On 28 May 2010, at 12 noon, our current President, Maurice Stagg, will replicate the original Drive-in, appearing in golfing attire as worn in 1910, and using a genuine antique, hickory shafted driver, he will drive a ball from the 1st tee. This distance of the drive will be measured and the ball mounted for display.
We expect a number of club members to support the President by also wearing clothes of the period to give an authentic touch to the occasion.
Following the Drive-in, the President and the Club Champion, (Paul Ryder) will play a Challenge match against the previous President (Max Clarke) and Club Captain (Roy Oaten). All will use antique clubs and will dress the part of 1910 golfers.

  • 1st Ace for Luke

    May 22 , 2010

The Derricks are at it again! Luke had his 1st hole in one the other day at Filton on the 4th hole(Bowling Green). He hit a 5 iron and to his and his father suprise found its way into the hole for an Ace! Luke then nearly had a second on on the 8th which would have cost him plenty behind the bar. Congratulations to Luke.

  • Tim Derrick Wins Open Club Championship

    May 10 , 2010

The Open Championships was won by a Filton member, but not an old member that would be familiar with his home track, but a new member who has only recently joined. Tim Derrick moved from Woodlands in Bristol to be a member at Filton with his son Luke who has been a junior member at the club for a few years now. Luke has won many times at Filton, and now we have two Derricks to look out for this season. Tim shot a 74 in the morning, but came back with a blistering round of 63 =137 with Duncan Smith close behind with 69+68=137 Scores

  • Filton Boys Win Cornish Festival 2010

    April 21 , 2010

An awesome week ending in an awesome result. Stableford rounds of 85, 82 and 82 gave them a three shot cushion of 249 beating last years team by one point. Filton congratulates the team for winning such a prestigious event, and they must feel very proud indeed tonight. Daryl ended up tied 15th which in his own mind could have been so much better with a great first day 63 followed by a get out of jail card 73, but the final day 78 was not going to give him the possible win he so deserved. The boys said they have never seen Daryl strike the ball so well, but luck was not on his side at Trevose, and the putts didnt fall for him. Full press release to follow. Scores

  • Day Two - St Enedoc

    April 21 , 2010

After a shaky start on a very tough course we dropped our first shot of the week at the hard par 4 second, managed a long 2 putt for par matched by shaun's nett 4,then james and pete set alight on (another tough hole) 6th with james a great birdie and pete a nett birdie, james and shaun then had 2 nett birdie's on the next to put us 3 under about to tackle a well protected and into a stiff cold wind par 3 where jim and I parred then it was james with a birdie 3 and shaun with a nett birdie to take us out in 5 under, then again james had a nett birdie down 10 to go with my par,(we both needed two woods to reach this par 4) then my par on the long par 3 11th was paired with pete's nett 2, we then parred along to 17th where pete and I birdied and nett birdied the 220yd par 3 then shaun and I held our score at 10 under for the day,and positioned very nicely for the last day tomorrow. Shot of the day from Pete Peachey with a 3 wood from 220 yards knocking it to 10 ft to set up another birdie chance.
