Stragglers Section

Welcome to the Stragglers

The Stragglers is open to all members. The starting sheet is in the Club house. New members see Matt or Daryl and they will put your name down and try and link you up with some existing members.

Filton Stragglers provides competitive friendly golf to players of all ability. The format of the matches is 4 ball better ball, followed by liquid refreshment. For our home evening matches in the week we will be offering a snack (not a dinner). We will have a two course dinner as usual for our weekend games. We have changed to having a snack instead of dinner for the evening matches as it is something that other clubs are also opting for to attract players.

We will also only be donning jacket and tie for the weekend games, please bring a change of shirt for after the evening game. Simply put;
Weekday evening home match = clean shirt, snack, refreshment.
Weekend match = jacket & tie, dinner, refreshment.
For away games unless specified on the board = jacket & tie, dinner, refreshment

Stragglers provides a great opportunity to meet and play with other members. It is a great way for New members to meet others in the club. We will also be holding a Meet the Stragglers evening to advertise ourselves; more on this soon.

Selection for Matches is easy. Keep an eye on the fixtures on the Stragglers notice board and when the Match notice goes up, well in advance of a fixture sign this. Remember to give a contact number. Then check you've been selected and confirm your availability on the Selected Team Notice for the Fixture. This will usually be posted on the Friday before the week of the match.

The Match Notices for all our games in April will also be up on the Stragglers Notice Board in the changing room.

Sign up early to avoid disappointment. There is no fixed day of the week for the Stragglers matches so you should able to find an opportunity to play either mid week or at the weekend.

Stragglers News - January 2012

To all Stragglers, old and new, Happy New Year for 2012. Lets hope it's a great year for us all and includes many great matches.

Con is once again Captain for the new season, although you may be surprised to hear he's now going under the name of Andy Marsh (see Andy Nash for details of that story). Seriously though, it's good to know Con has agreed to continue for another year and let's make sure we all back him up when the season begins and make his job as captain easy and enjoyable.

If any Straggler's have changed their contact details, could you contact Andy Nash with the new ones (both home and mobile numbers and e-mail address if you have one).

You'll be pleased to learn that the fixture list for the new season has been completed and we'll be up and running with our first fixture on April 4th. Check below for the complete fixture list. If you would like a personal copy of the fixtures they can be sent to you via e-mail if you contact Andy Nash by e-mail (see below). The fixture list will also be posted on the notice board very shortly

Although nothing has been planned definitely as yet, there are whispers of a pre-season get together being organized for Stragglers old and new, probably sometime in late February or early March. This will hopefully involve a band and take place on a Friday or Saturday night. So watch this space or check the Stragglers notice board.
