Volunteer Members strip the Bungalow for Action

Bungalow Team2

Led by a no-nonsense Rob Thorne, a group of FGC member volunteers gave up their September 22nd Sunday afternoon to clear out the Club Bungalow, recently vacated by Julia Rose. This involved completely dismantling and clearing the kitchen, lifting and removing all carpets and underlays, removing numerous laminate floors and dismantling various bedroom and lounge furniture items. In two and a half hours, a large waste skip was completely filled.
This is yet another example of the wonderful support that can be given by our members when the need arises.
Hopefully, this will now enable to club to renovate the bungalow ready for human habitation in the near future.
Many thanks to the group for their magnificent efforts. They are, (from left to right:)
Darren McGee, Rob Thorne, Brett Langermann, Andy Nash, Dianna Chabay, Ed Chabay

A mention must also be given to Andy Sherlock, who gave up an afternoon a fortnight ago to redecorate a spare room at the back of the kitchen, which is to be used as the Kitchen Laundry Room. Thanks a lot Andy

Filton Stragglers Fundraiser a Huge Success

by Office

on Fri August 2, 2019

Following the wonderful Stragglers Fundraising day at Filton Golf Club on Saturday 27th August I am very pleased to be able to present a copy of the message Stragglers Captain Kane Goodman sent out to all his supporters:

"After Saturdays very successful and enjoyable "Open Shambles", hosted by the Stragglers section, I have just had the pleasure of handing over £3547.26 to Marcus Phelps and Phil Donkin.
This amount wouldn't have been possible without prize donations from friends, members and the following local companies:

Licata Golf
S&L building and maintenance LTD
BRD Roofing LTD

Thank you to all the pro shop and bar staff, the Stragglers, Filton Club members and guests who made this day possible. And also a huge thanks to Spags for spending 9 hours on the  "Beat the Pro" 11th tee and to the lads from local band  "Rooted"  who well and truly smashed it.
All this money will be put back into the course via the course improvement fund so all members benefit."

I'm sure all of us at Filton Golf Club would like to thank Kane and his Stragglers for a fantastic day which was enjoyed by all. As an addendum, it appears in excess of £3000 was taken behind the bar throughout this day. Well done to all who participated.

Filton Stragglers Vs Lansdowne
Thursday 18th July 2019

On a pleasant evening, Lansdowne Golf Club entertained our boys in this annual away fixture. The match outcomes are as follows:
Russ and Chris won 2&1,
Trevor and Alan won 3&2
Paul & Shane won 5&4
Chris and Guy halved
Rich and Kev D suffered a very rare defeat 2 down. (Rich had already played the Seniors Championship event today)

Special thanks to Russ for stepping in at the last minute! He obviously likes Lansdowne as he played the back nine in level par gross! Shane and Paul played one of the guys Shane had played in the home match. “Not again !” he was heard to say loudly!?  He ! He !

Lansdowne were great company as always and are looking forward to next year's fixtures! Many thanks to the Lansdowne boys and club for their hospitality and sportsmanship.

This victory takes our 2019 record to:
Played 16 Won 13 Drawn 2 Lost 1

“Nice one” Captain Kane and boys !
